Standard Walk Guides
There are many great walks in the Peak District, meaning there’s bound to be one suitable for you in amongst its 555 square miles! To help you choose, we’ve given each of our walks a grade:
- Entry Level – generally flat but possibly with some minor gradients, on good paths and straightforward navigation, generally up to about 4 miles.
- Easy – walks up to about 6 miles, but on decent paths and tracks and with gentle ascents, possibly with some shorter but steeper sections.
- Moderate – approximately 6-9 miles in length, on rougher paths and tracks, and with some longer, steeper ascents.
- Hard – usually 10 miles +, on rougher paths and tracks possibly with some steep ascents and scrambling.
Sometimes you’ll find walks which are a mix of grades – ie short in length but quite tough in terms of ascent. Just be sure to read the walk description as this should help you decide if the walk is for you. Also bear in mind that the Peak District tends not to be the most difficult walking, and the grades reflect the landscape of the Peak District, not anywhere else. For example, a moderate grade walk in the Lake District or Snowdonia would likely be more difficult that a moderate walk in the Peak District.
