Percy Pud 10k – Sunday 2 December
This weekend, instead of walking in the Peak District, I’ll be running the Percy Pud 10k. The Percy Pud is a lovely race, set in the picturesque Loxley Valley on the outskirts of Sheffield. It contours midway along the hillside above the valley, before it reaches the Peak District National Park at Damflask Reservoir. The route carries on to Low Bradfield, before turning back and returning back along the same route.
I’ve been recovering from an ankle injury this last few months, so haven’t been running much. Nonetheless I do the Percy Pud every year, so booked myself a place anyway even though I’d no chance of running a good time this year. And that’s when I had an idea!
My friend Peter has run the Percy Pud for the last few years dressed as a Bradfield Brewery Beer Bottle – the Farmer’s Blonde variety I think – and I knew that the brewery has a second bottle, this time the seasonal and very popular Belgian Blue. So I got in touch and Jackie at Bradfield Brewery has very kindly let me use one of the outfits in Sunday’s race!
The ‘Battle of the Bottles’ may not turn out to be much of contest though – Peter’s run the London Marathon in the bottle, as well as (I think) a 48 minute 10km – I think I’ll just be pleased to get round.
So, wish us luck and if you’re heading out to watch the race, give us a wave!
