About Us

Walking The Peaks was set up by James and Philippa Burdett, fulfilling a longstanding ambition to make a living in a more enjoyable and rewarding manner. We’re based on the outskirts of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, just outside the boundary of the Peak District National Park.

About Us

Walking The Peaks can provide you with some of the best walks in the Peak District.  Run by James and Philippa Burdett from their home on the edge of Sheffield,   it’s our goal to make sure you get the most out of your visit.

Back in 2002, James set up “Sheffield 20’s & 30’s Walking Group”. Only ten people turned up to the first meeting, but it soon became extremely popular with over 200 members. The group still exists today. Running SWG involved planning and leading walks throughout the Peak District and beyond, including weekends away walking in the  Lake District, North York Moors, and Snowdonia. It’s at SWG that James and Philippa met.

In 2004 we left the UK to spend a year in western Canada.  After snowboarding at Silver Star, James worked at Valhalla Pure Outfitters in Vernon, BC and later Canmore, Alberta. At first, Philippa worked in a hotel and then a sweet shop in Canmore. We spent lots of time exploring the back country of the Canadian Rockies, often camping out.

After we returned to the UK, we continued walking and camping. We’ve  hiked in the Pyrenees, the Alps, Iceland, and the Dolomites. Philippa has also hiked in the Himalayas and the Andes. James in particular continues to go walking and loves wild camping whenever possible.
